Spokane Journal of Business Article in Support of "Moving Workers Beyond Three R's"

The three traditional R's of Education--Reading, Writing and Arithmetic--aren't enough for new workers entering the workforce, according to a recent article by ALTEK President Mike Marzetta and Washington Director of America's Edge, a national group dedicated to the strengthening of business through investment in children, and demand a new model for education of today's youth. This education combines the "hard" skills traditionally found in technical programs with the so-called "soft" skills that help create better communicators who are more prepared for the job market.

Career Preparation Focus of New Article with ALTEK President

While jobs in many sectors are still seeing tough choices and stiff competition, contract manufacturers like ALTEK are seeing positions go unfilled as a result of less skilled workers with the hands-on training needed to fill them. In the Inland Northwest particularly, this shortage comes at a time when the Aerospace industry is heating up, with giants like Boeing signing contracts bringing millions of dollars of Aerospace manufacturing projects into the region.

New Poll Emphasizes U.S. Manufacturing Industry

A recent national poll conducted by The Mellman Group shows voters view creating manufacturing jobs and strengthening the manufacturing industry as top economic priorities, according to a recent report at AmericanManufacturing.org. The poll was conducted in the summer of 2012, with results also pointing to manufacturing as the most important industry for rebuilding the US economy.

Contract Manufacturing Expecting Growth in Coming Months

The survey, taken by manufacturing engineers and purchasing personnel from a cross section of manufacturing industries, showed up to 42% of OEMs expect to see increasing contract manufacturing projects and purchases over the next 12 months. These results were posted this month on Aerospace Manufacturing and Design Online and showed an increase of 10% from 2010 survey results.

ALTEK Employees Give the Gift of Life, One Pint at a Time

ALTEK employees took part in a recent volunteer blood drive event benefiting the Inland Northwest Blood Center located in Spokane, Washington. Employees participate in blood drives for the INBC up to four times each year; our company goal is to collect at least 12 units of blood during each blood drive and we are happy to report the goal was hit one more time at this last event. The blood drives are open to ALTEK employees, families and friends, and members of the local community.

ALTEK Employees Volunteer at KSPS Pledge Drive

Taking a small break from providing custom injection molding services, a group of ALTEK employees, friends and family members headed up to the KSPS Studios on the South Hill of Spokane to volunteer answering phones during the KSPS pledge drive. After attending a thoughtful and organized orientation process, those seventeen people sat in front of phones waiting for phones to ring so the process of raising money could begin.
