HISTORY

HISTORY

On February 24,1976, Al Marzetta (the “Al” of Altek) and his business partner, Leo Kauppila, formed K&M Engineering & Tool, Inc in the Marzetta family’s garage.  Business grew quickly, resulting in the need to relocate to a brick and mortar facility. The partnership dissolved in 1980, leaving  Al with sole ownership, prompting him to rename the corporation Altek Machine & Molds, Inc.  The company’s name was later shortened to Altek, Inc. in 1991.

The business continued to expand over the years, prompting Al to design and oversee the construction of a series of larger facilities to accommodate the organization's growth needs.  The final build occurred in 1997, and resulted in Altek’s current 140,000 square foot facility.

Today, Altek is truly a one-stop-shop: consisting of a state of the art Machine Shop, Mold Shop, Tool Room, and Paint & Assembly Shop where we provide “added value” to our customers. This includes, but is not limited to, pad and laser printing, masking and painting, EMI-RFI shielding, bonding, testing and assembly.

When Altek was first formed, much of the plastic injection molding technology and processes we take for granted today didn’t exist. What did exist was Al’s vision of a company that could provide a single resource for customer product design optimization, development and manufacturing.  This vision is now a reality that has set Altek apart from its competitors.

Al’s natural skills and passion made Altek into a contract manufacturer that leads the industry in innovation, expertise and customer service. Altek is proud that its customers see the benefits of that passion everyday through creative solutions that bring products to market quickly – without sacrificing quality.

In 1997, Al’s son, Mike, joined the Altek team after completing his Master’s Degree in Organizational Development and gaining experience abroad. Five years later, in 2002, after learning the business, Mike was promoted to President to run the organization alongside his father who had then taken the title of CEO. They had two distinct styles of leadership, however their respective knowledge and skill base catapulted Altek to where it is now.  Today, Altek serves advanced industries such as aerospace, medical, space, technology and defense with integrity and excellence.

Over the past several years, after receiving their advanced degrees and gaining outside experience, other members of the Marzetta family have joined the team in order to take up the mantle that Al began decades prior.  This includes (in birth order), Andrea (Marzetta) Larson, Chris Marzetta, Tony Marzetta, and Joe Marzetta.  Al’s oldest son, Dave Marzetta, plays a role in Altek’s sister company, MINDS-i; an educational robotics company developed for STEM educators and created by Mike in 2007, which is located onsite in Altek’s facility.

The Marzetta family strives to uphold Altek’s Vision & Mission statement to serve our customers and to treat all the member’s of the organization like an extension of the family.  This is what truly sets Altek apart!
